5 Vintage Inspired Pink Bathrooms

As you probably could imagine, I watch a lot of HGTV and home renovation shows. One of the things that make me cringe every time is when they completely gut a retro bathroom. Oh, not just any old bathroom – a perfectly pink bathroom. And while sometimes I understand things must change, I wish they’d leave something. Maybe let the pink wall tile stay or the baby pink toilet. Either way, it’s nice to see that some people out there, like me, are inspired by these vintage pink bathrooms. So, here’s a round-up of some of my favorites.

Admittedly obsessed with terrazzo floors, so the fact that this is a subtly pink bathroom is a bonus.

A Little Pink Bathroom History

There’s actually a quite presidential name behind this classic trend and color. Before Mamie Eisenhower was the First Lady, she was the military wife of a general. To make herself feel at home, she kept a color palette of cream, green and pink no matter where they moved. And when she married ol’ Dwight and they moved into The White House? She brought her colors with her, including what is now referred to as “Mamie Pink” into the bathrooms. These can still be found in their former Gettysburg home (yes, there are tours!) today. The pink bathroom trend was wildly popular from the mid-50s to early 60s.  With “Millennial Pink” hitting us now, it’s not hard to imagine a color taking over an era.

If you’re really feeling nostalgic about the trend, you can even join the Save The Pink Bathrooms movement. Also, feel free to shop for some vintage pink home decor.

This is by far one of the coolest blog posts I have ever read! I occasionally watch home renovation shows, especially recently, and I love the idea of a pink bathroom! Once I have my own house, that is definitely going to be my first project.
